What and Why?

WHAT IS ECOCENTRIC?

EcoCentric is a convenient and sustainable way to order the things you want, in reusable containers. No more plastic waste and no worries about food contamination from plastic wrap or scents from aerosol-foaming products. Our easy-to-wash, high-quality containers are durable and dishwasher-safe with a leak-proof lid. Friendly to both the environment and the planet’s inhabitants.

EcoCentric was created with the goal of providing a plastic-free alternative for Takeout, Grocery, and other products and services that would allow consumers to enjoy their online purchases without the guilt of the plastic pollution that comes with it.

Our packaging is changing deliveries in a way that works for the whole planet, making sustainable, reusable packaging the new status quo. And because we believe green choices should never get in the way of convenience, we’re just as fast and efficient as any other ordering platform.

WHY DO WE CARE?

We live in a time where convenience comes at the expense of the environment and the oceans that sustain life.

For decades now we have been accustomed to single-use materials as the solution to all kinds of packaging without worrying about the consequences. Companies are choosing to make something that will be used just once from a material that lasts forever.

We are made to believe that the solution to the plastic problem is recycling. However, of all the plastic ever generated less than 10%  has been recycled. Moreover, when it does get recycled it down cycles which results in a lower quality product that cannot be recycled again, and has nowhere to go but into our landfills and oceans.

We should not be forced to pollute the ocean every time we eat drink or go shopping. We need to be given a choice, a plastic-free choice.

So, what can we do?

Join EcoCentric –  a platform created with the goal of providing a plastic-free alternative for Takeout, Grocery, and other products and services that would allow consumers to enjoy their online purchases without the guilt of the plastic pollution that comes with it.

Here are more facts that shine a light on the issue:

UN study estimates that 8.3 billion tons of plastic have been made since the 1950s, with only 9% being recycled. An incredible 79% ends up in landfills and the rest is burned releasing harmful chemicals into the air.

This year alone 300 million tons of plastic will be made, with more than half intended to be single-use and 99% of it made using fossil fuels. The result is a massive increase in greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming. Click here to learn more.

The European Commission has found that the most common sources of plastic waste in the oceans are single-use items associated with food packaging and takeout meals.

While you’re reading this a garbage truck full of single-use plastic will get dumped in the ocean, and by the end of the year, there will be an extra 8 million tons of waste. By 2050 there will be more waste than fish (Wearden, 2016) with millions killed by ingestion (Parker, 2018).

When plastics degrade they release potentially harmful airborne microplastics which enter the food chain and contaminate drinking water. The long-term impact of exposure is completely unknown right now (Parker, 2019), (Cockburn).

In just five bullet points you start to see that plastics pollute, kill wildlife, accelerate global warming, and could be responsible for long-term health issues. When we learned this, we saw how single-use plastics are anything but convenient.
